The Reading Awards
The Reading Awards is an annual awards ceremony celebrating excellence in literacy instruction. Each year, the East York-Scarborough Reading Association accepts nominations of Ontario educators who have demonstrated outstanding work in the field of literacy. We select up to three educators from the nominations received and celebrate their accomplishments at the Reading for the Love of It conference Dinner Banquet. This is a ticketed event that does not require conference registration to attend and includes the awards ceremony, a cash bar, live entertainment, a full-course meal, and a keynote presentation.

Nominations
To nominate an educator for a reading award you must submit a nomination form prior to the upcoming conference. The form requires two nominators (on the same form), as well as evidence that the nominee meets the following criteria:
- Demonstrated a lasting influence on student learning through innovative teaching
- Shared literacy expertise with colleagues (mentoring, presenting workshops)
- Contributed to literacy newsletters and/or professional journals or the equivalent.
We award up to three teachers each year based on school boards/schools: one T.D.S.B. educator, one T.C.D.S.B. educator, and one educator from any other school or school board in Ontario. Each award winner will receive a complimentary full conference registration package to the Reading for the Love of It conference, two tickets to the Awards Banquet, and a $100 gift certificate to purchase books.
Attending the Banquet
Attending this event requires a banquet ticket which can be purchased through our conference Eventbrite page. Conference registration is not required to attend the banquet. You do not have to nominate or be nominated for a Reading Award to attend the banquet.
