Does Your Answer Make Sense?

Students are often asked in math if their answer makes sense. And, they will often say yes – regardless if their work is correct or if it is far from being correct. We can leverage our experience in literacy to address this issue in mathematics. In this session, I will highlight the role that communication plays in metacognition and how it supports students’ ability to explain their thinking accurately. Teachers will leave with a toolbox of strategies to bring to the classroom to support students in being able to use language and vocabulary to guide their work.
