More Than Words on a Page: Building Students’ Morphological Awareness One Word at a Time

Presented by Lesley Davidson

Description

Reading comprehension is dependent on the reader being able to read and understand the words on the page. Many Junior and Intermediate students don’t have the morphological knowledge for word level reading and spelling. How do we get adolescent students curious about words? How do we teach Strand B Word-Level Reading and Spelling: Using Morphological Knowledge and Vocabulary? Through the use of word study, word play, and word knowledge students learn how words work. In this session we will explore what explicit morphology and vocabulary instruction looks and sounds like using a toolkit of strategies to support both educators and students unlocking the secrets of words. Educators will receive a variety of resources that can support students in developing their word reading skills.
