The daily reading program in my grade 9 English class has impacted me a lot over the semester. From manga to horror fiction, books have had a big impact on my whole class. Reading daily has improved our vocabulary and enhanced our creativity and imagination. This improves a students’ social development, personal development, problem solving skills, and more. I believe that a daily reading program can not only impact a person’s vocabulary but also impact their life in a positive way.

In the beginning me and my classmates didn’t enjoy reading books like we do now. I discovered that it all has to do with the books you choose! My teacher recommended to me a novel from the Seven series. It’s a series of books about seven cousins whose grandfather gives them each a challenge to accomplish before receiving their inheritance. Gradually, I started to enjoy reading the book because it has adventure and suspense and now, reading has become a daily routine for me. Everyone has their own taste; I believe they just need to find the genre that they enjoy reading whether it’s fiction like thriller, mystery, romance, horror, or even non-fiction. Reading books is like watching movies– everyone has their favourite kind!
Teachers that want to develop a love of reading in their students should remember the benefits of a daily reading program. I am sure that many teachers already have their own approach but I’m trying to encourage the teachers that do not know about the positive impacts that a daily reading program provides. Eventually, I believe that students that are like my past self will start to enjoy reading books too. Students just need to find the books that are right for them!
