Description
Have your students experienced an engagement lull post-pandemic? This session will focus on why thinking activities are so important to engagement as well as literacy development, and what we can do to maximize student thinking in our English classrooms. JETS (Joy, Empathy, Thinking and Strategies) is a teaching structure that focuses on promoting literacy growth through thinking tasks. This presentation will combine the latest JETS strategies with “Building Thinking Classrooms” ideals, to increase the engagement and the literacy development of the students in our classes. The session will address everything from classroom setup, to assessment and evaluation, while outlining the JETS structure that brings it all together. No previous knowledge of JETS is required, and all attendees will leave with access to ready to use resources.
