Description

Vocabulary is one of the six essential components of the Braid of Literacy (Bear et al., 2016) and a prominent component of the 2023 Ontario Language curriculum. This workshop will engage attendees in explicit strategy instruction in content-area vocabulary that builds students’ conceptual understanding. Examples will include focusing on the three tiers of vocabulary, choosing target words, using graphic organizers (e.g., the Frayer Model) and leveraging morphology to aid in word meanings. Connections will be made among Strands A, B and C from the 2023 Ontario Language curriculum.
