Description

This workshop is a joint presentation from 2 perspectives, that of an Indigenous Educator and of a School Librarian, both from TCDSB. This workshop will discuss how to feature picture books by Indigenous Authors and Illustrators from Turtle Island in a school library and classroom for elementary grades JK-5. As well, using these books as a way to facilitate meaningful discussions through sharing circles. The workshop will explore various picture books that work well for this model, and how to properly conduct a sharing circle as an Indigenous Ally, in a manner that is in appreciation and honour of the sacred ceremony from which sharing circles originate.
