Description
In this engaging and practical workshop, participants will explore the essential role of the read-aloud within a comprehensive daily language program. Educators will learn how to design and deliver rich read-aloud experiences that go beyond comprehension, fostering critical thinking, identity, and joy in reading. Using Gholdy Muhammad’s equity-centered framework of the 5 Learning Pursuits—identity, skills, intellect, criticality, and joy—participants learn how to plan a weekly read-aloud that nurtures both academic growth and personal connection. The session will also highlight the key components of an effective read-aloud, including purposeful text selection, intentional questioning, and opportunities for student voice and reflection. Cross-curricular connections will be explored to help deepen learning across subjects such as science, social studies, and the arts. You’ll leave with a flexible toolkit of read-aloud routines that celebrate student identity, deepen engagement, and support meaningful, inclusive learning for all.
